LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR: DISCOVER CHALLENGES, A WORLD THINKING DAY EVENT
The special event, Discover Challenges, will take place February 23 in honor of World Thinking Day–a day of friendship, advocacy and action celebrated by girls and Girl Scouts across the globe. This year’s theme will center on issues afflicting our local communities: human trafficking, homelessness and the environment.
Discover Challenges will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Girl Scout Central Service Center, located at 1751 Plum Lane, Redlands, California. Come hear from Karen Bell, Chief Deputy District Attorney for San Bernardino County; David Nagler, Executive Director of the Central City Lutheran Mission; and Olivia Sanchez, Municipal Program Manager at Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc. Girls will work in teams and devise take-action projects for their communities.
The guest speakers will be followed by a complimentary hot lunch and breakout sessions, where girls will join together and develop projects addressing the community issues of their choice. After brainstorming plans of action at the event and developing projects over the course of several months, girls will see the culmination of their work in a public event. Girls who attend the event, but are not Girl Scouts, will only have to pay a $12 fee, which also includes a year-membership to Girl Scouts and World Thinking Day patch.
Girl Scouting has always been about female leadership and advocacy, the cookies are just a delicious means to a better end for all of us.
